9 Actual
A term used to indicate that the particulars given are to be "actual" and not "nominal". The cotton trade is probably the only trade where the necessity arises to use these terms. In all other textile trades 30-in. wide means 30-in. wide, but in the cotton trade it may mean "nominal" or "actual", namely, 291/2-in. or 30-in. All the particulars required to enable a manufacturer to quote for a cloth may mean either of these terms. For instance, 30/116, 19 X 19, 36/40 should mean 30-in. 116 yards, 19-ends and 19 picks per 1-in., 36's twist, 40's weft. But different makers would read this differently. One maker may quote for "actual" while another may think "nominal" particulars are meant, and may quote for 291/2-in. 116 yards, 72-in. X 72-in., 38/42, or 36/42. To ensure the required cloth is being quoted for, a shipper would send his inquiry on as follows: 30 full 11636 76 X 76 full 36/40 "actual". -

11 chapter and verse
1. n phr1) ссылка на источник [первонач. на главу и стих Библии]But I have taken pains with the documentation, and I can quote chapter and verse... some diary, memoir, letter or whatever for every phrase that appears in the book. (V. W. Brooks, ‘The Flowering of New England’, ‘Preface’) — Хотя в моей книге и не даются сноски, я потратил много времени на изучение документов и могу подкрепить любое утверждение, содержащееся в книге... точными ссылками на дневники, мемуары, письма и т. п.
‘Is it that you know that? Or do you just think it?’ Despard went brick red. ‘Meaning one oughtn't to say things without giving chapter and verse? I suppose that's true.’ (A. Christie, ‘Cards on the Table’, ch. XV) — - Вы это точно знаете или это ваше предположение? Деспард густо покраснел. - Вы хотите сказать, что подобные вещи нельзя утверждать, не ссылаясь на источник информации. Вы, конечно, правы.
